The List #4: Top Ten Commercials (Funny or Otherwise)
I don't watch TV that much, but honestly when I do I'm not bothered by commercials. (I realize there is TiVo and what not BUT, for those without TiVo, think if you had to watch a whole show without a potty break, or getting another beer/glass of wine, or taking the dogs out? You wouldn't be too happy, would you Mrs. Leg-crosser Dry-Mouth "Quit Your Damn Barking" Man, would you? So for those reasons alone I rejoice in the name of commercials! Bring them on!
Am I moved to leap from my chair and run out to purchase most of the products I see? Um, no. I dont know that I've EVER purchased something based on how clever the ad is. For example, I think that those half-naked hooker Miller Lite ads were super clever, but NOTHING and NO ONE will ever trick me into thinking Miller Lite "tastes great." That's just crazy talk. Miller Lite is pee pee in a bottle. And btw, no will ever convince me to consume a Miller Lite. I don’t like pee pee. Anyway, that to me [purchasing the product, in case I lost you there], is not the point of commercials.
Also, to be perfectly honest, it's the really good commercials that I forget the product easiest! Most of the time I'm so distracted by the commerical that when describing it to someone later I'm at a loss for what the product even was. Nike or Reebok or Adidas? Who cares, but did you see the cute doggie?!
OK here we go again. WHY do I punish myself?:
1 - Nike basketball with the dribble/dribble/pass. The most ridiculously cool commercial ever. Maybe the ONLY cool commercial ever?
2 - OK this is a real commercial for Montgomery Flea Market that became famous through YouTube. Consider yourself warned: this commercial is irritatingly catchy, it will stick in your head, and "It's just like ... a mini ... MALL!"
3 - Terry Tate Superbowl Commercial. Not often do I laugh out loud at a commercial, and this one has a bonus element of surprise.
4 - The Name is Dumass Here is a prime example of a commercial that outshines the product. I don’t know what it’s for, but I know I like it! In fact, I didn’t even look to tell YOU what it’s for!
5 - Pet Smart doggie commercial. Awww
6 - Budweiser Horses w/ zebra referee
7 - Citizen's Bank "Pay it forward" type commercials where like, a teenager will give a pregnant woman his seat on a bus, so a man who witnessed that gets all warm and fuzzy on the inside and is moved to share his umbrella with an old woman waiting to cross the same street he is. Aw actually makes me tear up. Not kidding. [Note: I can't find this online and my hunter is in Hawaii! :-( Share the link if you find it!]
8 - Coca Cola Buy the World a Coke Christmas Listen. It’s Christmas and it’s Coca Cola. There ain’t nothin’ better than Coca Cola and Christmas time.
9 - Classic. "Off the floor, off the scoreboard, off the bank board, no rim." NAME IT!
10 - Apple Computers F’ing creepy ass commercial. Gives me chills.
If you're super-motivated, here's the long version of the best commercial ever.

Calling all daycare owners!
Calling all Cheeksdown fans (who happen to also own a daycare)! We need your help! Today at lunch Fran shared an awesome idea for a new video, but unfortunately we don’t have the resources at our disposal to pull it off. If only we had a reputable, modern daycare center that allows parents to go online and watch a live video feed of their kids, we would be set! (If I had a nickel for every time I said THAT!)
Fran’s idea is once the parents drop their kids off and head to work, we replace the real kids with midgets wearing the same outfits the kids were wearing in the room where the cameras are. When the parents get online and bring up the video feed, they’ll be shocked and awed to see their little Johnny drinking beer, smoking, playing with knives, and doing all the pint-sized debauchery that you can imagine.
We’re figuring we can rent the midgets from Rent-A-Midget (http://www.tinyentertainment.com - true current website headline: Book a Christmas Elf Before it's Too Late!). The only thing this flawless idea is lacking is a reputable daycare center that is willing to be in cahoots with us on the prank. Granted there is the slight risk that some of the parents may think it not funny and attempt to press charges…but remember that (although it is completely recycled, worn-out humor) little people are comedic gold. So please send us an email to Fran if you are willing to help us out on this one…

The List #4: Top Ten SNL Skits
SNL has definitely been a rollercoaster ride of good and bad times, no? There are skits (Brian Fellow's Safari Planet, Opera Man) and players (Dana Carvey) that always make me chuckle; those that perplex me as to why they are funny (Sprockets/Kevin Nealon in general); even some that piss me off b/c they are SO stupid (Deep Thoughts/Melanie Hutsell).
This list was tough b/c there are perennial favorites that are always at the very least humorous and worth a look-up on YouTube, like Debbie Downer. There are classics like the Coneheads that I will always consider comedic genius. Those are awesome, but for this list I'm talking about specific skits that had me really laughing out loud. So no saying "Wayne's World!" I mean, WHICH Wayne's World? Be more constructive with your feedback (Steeeeeeeve)...
BTW can I quickly make an SNL Dream Team? My top ten SNLers, all doing one super-stupendous show: Mike Meyers, Adam Sandler, Dan Akroyd, Steve Martin, Jane Curtin, Amy Poehler, Will Ferrell, Gilda Radnor, Bill Murray, Andy Sandberg (or Tracy Morgan or Chris Parnell. And if you yell about the indecisiveness shhhhhhh!)
Dream Team Host? choice #1- Justin Timberlake. I KNOW, I KNOW but the couple he was on were so freakin good. So WAH to you! Choice #2- Tom Hanks. Choice #3- Natalie Portman
Alright, drumroll please:
1 - Dick in a Box - With all the "classic" skits out there, I know this will get backlash, but whatever. It's definitely the hardest I have ever laughed at ANYthing on TV.
2 - Celebrity Jeopardy featuring "Anal Bum Cover"
3 - Steve Martin's "King Tut"
4 - More Cowbell! Blue Oyster Cult skit with Christopher Walken
5 - Chris Farley's Matt Foley skit - I love that Christina Applegate is doing everything she can not to burst out laughing
6 - Adam Sandler's Hanukah Song
7 - Oops I Crapped My Pants commercial
8 - Natalie Portman Digital Shorts gangsta rap
9 - Drunk Girl talking about Spring Break (different Drunk Girl link because we can't find Spring Break!)
10 - Michael Vick "Really"
So that's my list. I feel so naked. HOWEVER, I admit that while reading the (I predict thoroughly obnoxious) responses to this list I will undoubtedly curse a lot and say things like, "Crap! I forgot that one!" So I'm pouring out a mental 40 for those skits that I have mistakenly overlooked and didn't make my list. This one’s for my homies.
OK, let the tirade begin.

Bigfoot Spotted!
I’ve always been terrified of Bigfoot every since second grade when my brother showed me a book with a picture of Bigfoot carrying a helpless camper wrapped up in their sleeping bag like a big human-filled Hot Pocket. That son of a bitch (sorry mom) told me it was real, and I’ve been convinced ever since. Most people poo-poo the idea that an animal can evade human capture and discovery these days. But people is dumb. Bigfoot is real…and I will prove it with some simple answers to the typical questions…
Q. Oh yeah, a-hole? Well, how can Bigfoot hide in populated areas?
A. Think about it this way - a well-trained Army Ranger could evade discovery in Central Park for years! Now imagine a big, smart “ape” in a big forest...he could evade detection indefinitely.
Q. But what about the “poo”? An animal this big has to take giant, super-stinky craps that we’d find.
A. Bigfoot is a primate…a big monkey…all monkeys are contractually obligated to fling poo… so obviously the Bigfeets fling all of their poo somewhere far away that we don’t look…like the tops of trees or the roofs of nearby Hardees.
Q. OK Mr. Answer Lady, what about the bodies of dead Bigfeets?
A. Well, again…a simple answer. Bigfeets hump and eat their dead…sure it makes for larger craps that they must fling…but it is an efficient ecological way to stay hidden and get some good eats.
Q. If Bigfoot is real why hasn’t someone found a pic of him in Google Earth yet?
A. Well smarty pants, Bigfeets aren’t dumb. All they would have to do is wear banana hats so that they would look just like a fruit basket when the satellite imagers take the pics.
So obviously, Bigfeets is real. If my explanations didn’t convince you…take a look at the Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization’s take…go here.

The List #3: Top 10 80's Teen Comedies
I'll start this with a simple statement- if you don't love the 80's, there's something wrong with you. The bubble-gum-chomping innocent pop culture; the guiltless, shameless excess; the "go get 'em" attitude. Wait are those things to love or loathe? Nevermind. We're talking about movies here, once again. In the 80's, special effects really took off; dividing lines between winners and zeros were drawn; thrillers and science fiction exploded.
But I confess that I really enjoy the guilty pleasures you can just sit back and enjoy. For this list let's share our Top 10 Teen 80's Movies.
Let's face it- for the most part, teen comedy directors in the 80's (and now) weren't known for pumping out thinkers, right? (Although I admit that if you wanted to, you could sit and think about some and find awesome meanings. Like was the Breakfast Club a microcosm of society? Hmm? I prefer to think of it as a really good Saturday afternoon movie.)
Let's list the best ones with (CRITERIA ALERT!) lots of hair spray; cool guys (a.k.a.
football players) named Jake and Brad, and cool girls (read: cheerleaders) named Cindy and Jennifer; a scene with a football game and/or school dance; dialogue highlighted by words like bitchin'; and kick ass soundtracks featuring bands like Huey Lewis and the News. Yeah! The heart of rock n' roll IS still beating, Huey!
Here's mine:
1- Back II the Future - Disclaimer: I definitely resent that it doesn't follow all the rules. MJF was NOT the cool QB by any means, but this is probably my favorite movie of all time. To its credit, it does feature a school dance and 80's fashion and music. Score!
2- Can't Buy Me Love - mmmmmmm Dempsey. I will watch this movie every single time it is on TV ... soooo, every other weekend.
3- Sixteen Candles - I am, however, a bigger Leah Thompson fan than I am Molly R.
4- The Breakfast Club (if you don't let yourself think about it. If you DO think about it, it drops to #9.)
5- Heathers - best dark comedy of all time. Despite the girls not being cheerleaders they all have the name Heather, which is sufficient.
6- Goonies - pre-teen comedy but it still counts. I wanted to be Andi (the cheerleader)
7- Fast Times at Ridgemont High
8- Just One of The Guys (huge bonus for multi-use of the word bitchin')
9- Karate Kid (sweep the leg!)
10- Ferris Buehler's Day Off
Leave a comment. Come back next week. Like, San Dimas High School Football RULES, OK!?!

The List #2: Top 10 Movies I'm ASHAMED to Love
I admit it. I LOVE The Mummy. It's a movie that not a lot of people like (or admit to liking). It's one of those that- if it's brought up in a conversation about movies- I flush with embarrassment and hang my head while mumbling almost incoherently "heeeeey, I like that movie ... kinda..." anytime someone mocks it. Fess up, you've done the same. This happens every couple of months. (People hate that movie!) I am now proclaiming it from the safety of my cyber world and semi-anonymity - I love The Mummy! Brendan Fraser is freakin' hilarious!
But that's not good enough for this week's list I'm proposing. I want to talk about the Top 10 Movies I'm Embarrassed ... Nay, ASHAMED to Love. Too ashamed to say it out loud and, under normal circumstances, even proclaim in cyber space.
Think about it-movies where, if a group of your very closest friends says, "That was a horrible movie!" and you happen to own the collectors' edition and head up the national fan club, you still will not stand up for the cinematic nightmare. You hide them when you have company over. Weakling!
But alas, I am guilty of the same. Here are my top 10. Don't hate me- and please come back next Thursday!
1- The Cutting Edge (Toe pick! I can recite the entire movie. Sigh)
2- Saw III - In public I agree when they say they shouldn't have gone past Saw I. Secretly I hope they never stop making them!
3- First Daughter - Starring Katie Holmes. Need more?
4- Bring it On - It's a movie about high school cheerleading. And I own it.
5- Grease II - I will willingly watch this if it comes on TV. I will not admit this in public. I will mock people who say they do.
6- Batman & Robin (proposed by my friend Ribby as scary- but I love me some Chris O'Donnell)
7- White Chicks - there was one good joke total (when the girls rap in the car), but I couldnt stop watching ... and then realized I had been entertained
8- Cheaper By the Dozen II - I accidentally watched this, and I SWEAR it's actually a touching family comedy. Watch it!
9- The Scorpion King - This is a Mummy spin off, so it has all the same humor and action. However, this ALWAYS comes up in bad movie discussions. I never speak up on its behalf L
10- All the Harry Potter movies (the level of my adoration by this 26-year-old rabid fan of the boy wizard is what puts this series on the list. However, in certain circles I might argue for the allure.)
Take that person I can't see and who can't see me!

The List #1: Best Halloween Movies Ever
I love countdowns and lists. It has been my general experience that if you assert what you consider a list of “the best” or “the worst” of something to a group, an impassioned discussion will ensue where different personalities pop out.
Some a-hole will argue with the whole group that Animal House isn’t one of the best comedies of all time just because he likes the sound of his own voice. There’s “that guy” that can’t limit his responses. Like, he can't possibly pick 10 best SNL episodes or he will die. He ends up with the best list b/c he had 25 instead of five. Then there’s the guy saying something really obscure in an attempt to impress the group—like that one of the best quotes of all time comes from a 1930’s French indy drama where the whole thing takes place at one table at one café for 3 ½ hours. (Here’s a tip—don’t ever be “that guy” or no one will want your opinion again. He’s the worst. Actually there's also the guy that only talks in movie quotes. He might be worst. Indy Drama Guy and Movie Quote Guy should fight to the death. That would solve everything.)
But I digress. We at Cheeksdown Productions love (almost) all kinds of movies—comedies are definitely our favorites, but we also love thrillers/horror, and in the spirit of Halloween, I invite everyone to share their top 10.
Here’s my basic criteria: Did it scare the shit out of me?, Was it really clever? (a twist ending is a bonus), Was there a particularly good character or great acting?, Did I have to literally cover my eyes? Was my heart racing? Was the gore and nastiness done right? Here’s mine (in order):
1- Silence of the Lambs
2- Hellraiser
3- The Exorcist
4- Saw
5- Nightmare on Elm Street (although I do like II the best)
6- Halloween
7- Sixth Sense
8- Poltergeist
9- Interview with the Vampire
10- Scream
I want to do an “Honorable Mention” or just a few bonus, but I don’t want to be “that guy” right?
Make my world better! Send your thoughts, your list, a partial list, say why someone else’s list is wrong (but in a nice way, a-holes)! And then check back every Thursday for the next list!

Who are you idiots?
Since we’re getting so much traffic these days and everyone is asking us questions … I figured I'd just vomit the info here …
We are three idiots who write screenplays and make silly short videos with the help of a dozen other idiots. Our music is provided by up and coming singer/songwriter Nick Daugherty. Recently, Ed Claypoole of Memideo Productions joined the mix to help improve our production quality. We are extremely happy to announce that our videos have been watched more than 1 million times on YouTube, Revver, MetaCafe, Funny or Die and Break. Take a look at our most popular video, "Hide and Go Poop," ... and then check out our multitude of other stupid videos, our blog, our podcast and the official rules of "Hide and Go Poop."
And yes, the wall prank is real. In 2004, we came in and worked through the night to do this. It was a lot of work but way worth it in the end. The camera we set up to capture the action did not have audio … but we could pretty much tell exactly what everyone was saying (WTF!). I am planning on a director’s cut with audio explaining how we built if for those who care. It isn’t our typical type of movie to post, but it was so much fun that I couldn’t resist.
If you are interested in reading our screenplays, please e-mail us here. Of course, they are all comedies.
And don't forget that "anything worth taking seriously is WORTH MAKING FUN OF."

Office Wall Prank
A few years back, we conceived of an awesome office prank. By building two walls, we could block off the doors to 11 senior management offices. Starting at 8 p.m. on a Thursday night, we framed, drywalled, mudded and painted the walls. At dawn, we were done, and had even added to the authenticity by reinstalling the same basebord, hanging pictures and creating a fake light switch. Not only did we videotape the entire 10 hour process, we also placed a hidden camera in a nearby plant to capture everyone's confusion as they attempted to enter their offices the next day. Enjoy ...

Finishing screenplay
Lucky for us, we actually aren't dead. Since our last video, we've been pounding sites all around the internet trying get a bigger audience for our videos...and it has really paid off...we've had over 350,000 video views since April. Maybe we should have stopped making videos a long time ago! We've also been spending much of our time working on the thing that inspired us to make this site...writing screenplays. Our web videos are fun to make but are really just practice (since we have no official training on this stuff) for the real thing. About this time last year we wrote our first screenplay and entered it into the Slamdance Script Competition...and we were farking ecstatic when we made semifinalists with Desperately Seeking Satan. The script is about a Satan-worshipping teen who attempts to prove he's evil enough for Hell.
We are currently just wrapping up our first full-length script so that we can start pitching the idea. I'm traveling to CA with our featured contributor Ed Claypoole (http://www.memideo.com/) in July to the Hollywood Pitch Festival, pitching Legends or Losers along with our full-length scripts. Also, this summer, we'll begin posting a lot more new, funny videos and blogging on a regular basis on anything and everything...so check back often...or you can subscribe to the RSS feed for this blog with http://feeds.feedburner.com/CheeksdownBlog

It’s Nobody’s Show
The NBC show called It’s Your Show…that our video Hide and Go Poop was part of the opening for the pilot…didn’t get picked up by the network. Their website gave away the promised 100K and pretty much closed down. The winning video is worth watching if you have time.
More Good Stuff
We just added a section to post other videos that we did NOT make…but DID make us laugh. This week’s include great videos from Wicked Awesome Films, Blame Society Productions, and Joey & David. We’ll be adding new ones to this section every week. Just look for the link on our videos page.
Why such a harsh name?We recently have had some success on a great new site called Funny or Die that is intended to weed out the crappy videos from the good ones. Will Ferrell and Adam McKay are the famous names behind it.

Did you see the size of that chicken?
In our continuing effort to pollute the world with our humor, we recently posted many of our videos on a few more hosting sites. We were lucky enough to be an Editor’s Pick on Vmix with ‘Ten Views’. VMix has a very responsive support system if you are interested in posting your own videos. Metacafe is another great site that is run well and has a large international audience. Since we posted our videos there, more than half of our visitors have been from Europe and Asia.
In crappier news, a troop of very enthusiastic fans in Indiana have formed a new official Hide and Go Poop league in their high school. They adapted the rules to fit their situation but the heart of the game remains the same! You can read cofounder Alex’s blog about their rules here.
So where the HELL are the new videos? Well, our response to that is simple… Fuck your Poncho. We could go into details about why there aren’t any but we know you actually don’t care about us and our personal problems (read as “send us money”). We’re currently working on sequels to our most popular videos…not because we’re out of new ideas…but because we have way too many ideas per topic to fit into one video. So check back soon for some strategies for Hide and Go Poop, a wicked street fight, and more crickets.

Better quality
We've recently found a few new video sites to post our stuff. You can check them out in the 'web' section of our page. Each of them has their benefits but we found that Revver has the best quality by far. You can REALLY see the difference on "The Armless Cowboy" where as on YouTube you can't even see our ugly mugs...so we just switched most of the videos here to be viewed from Revver...so don't be surprised if you see an unrelated advertisement appear in the video after it is over. And since our videos are now spread across so many different sites, we added a counter for total web views for each for all sites...with the grand total of all videos on all sites coming to almost 149 thousand...which is actually about 600 'real' views after you subtract how many times we watched ourselves.
Thanks to all who voted for our videos on It's Your Show contests 63 and 65...apparently they don't mean its OUR show because we didn't win either.

Nick Daugherty's Episode 3 "Another Day at the Office"
Nick just posted another installment in his quest called "How to Get a Record Deal in 365 Days." In this episode, Nick plays to a sell-out crowd at his first corporate event and debuts a new song called “Rocket Science Shouldn’t Be Hard.” Check it out here: http://www.nickdaugherty.com/ or http://www.myspace.com/nickdaugherty . You might recognize of few of the faces in it.
The Armless Cowboy
Just got some kick-ass ragtime piano music from Nick Daugherty's friend Brian Hauck and finished up this vid. We made this video for a contest to make a 'Western' on It's Your Show. Once voting opens, we'll have a shot at the 1000 dollar prize. We love this vid but we're a little disappointed in the compression on YouTube. It looks slightly better on our livevideo channel.

TA DA!
Welcome to our new layout! We just posted two videos this morning: Outtakes and the 3rd Floor Bandit. We've also recently been getting tons of questions about how to play Hide and Go Poop... so we added the Official Rules. More videos (including The Armless Cowboy) and more page updates coming tonight. Tell us what you think!

Cheeksdown on It's Your Show
We're very excited to be part of NBC's IYS website and pilot show. In case you haven't heard of it, it is a website (soon to be TV show...hopefully) hosted by Carson Daily with video challenges issued to amateurs. Our video Hide and Go Poop has been picked to be part of the show opening of the pilot. Even though we'll probably only get 2 seconds of air time, they made us sign all kinds of official looking documents...and I'm not positive, but I think they now own my kidneys. If you get a few minutes, please support us on that site...create an account and tell us (on IYS) what you think of our videos. We didn't win our weekly challenges but we're still eligible for the 100K at the end. We also plan to do a few more of the challenges soon.

Almost Ready
We've been slightly delayed on releasing a few of our latest. Check back soon for Eat Me 2 (Swaami Strikes Back), a VLOG of Fran's trip to Denmark, a Valentine's special, and more. Also, we are working on changing our web layout to be able to accommodate many more videos (the current one is no good for that). For a sneak preview, check out this image. Let us know what you think.
